SYA at K2
K2 Urban Youth Festival is a vibrant event in the heart of Southampton showcasing Southampton's up and coming musical talents.
There was a number of information stalls and exciting workshops facilitated by young people's services in Southampton so if you wanted to find out about housing or how to get involved in a music group or even how to make a tasty smoothie there were experts at hand to give you this information.

SYA achieves Approved Provider Status for Mentoring & Befriending
Heather and Tara on the Buddies team have spent a great deal of time submitting an application to the Mentoring and Befriending Foundation to become an Approved Provider of Mentoring.
They had to complete a very comprehensive application process but also to evidence all work and support that is provided on the Buddies scheme.
We are delighted that this process has now been completed and assessed and it has been successful. We can now use the official APS logo on marketing and promotional materials.
The assessor's report indicated that the application provided a clear explanation of how Buddies is operating and was supported by a well-presented portfolio of relevant evidence.
The programme meets the key management and operational requirements of the standard and is designed to deliver a quality group mentoring service.
Celebrating a contribution to Southampton
The young people who took part in the Litter Picking and the Gardening Projects received their certificates in a ceremony that was held in the underground home of Catch22 Baseline Project.
Present at the ceremony were the Mayor, Neighbourhood Wardens and members of City Colleges' Management and Lecturing Teams as well as parents and friends of the student volunteers.
The ceremony appeared to be a great hit with both the students and the other attendees. It was an appropriate celebration to mark the progress made by the students.
Summer Playscheme at Pavillion on the Park
Solent Youth Action has been running a playscheme for children and young people aged 5-14 at the Pavilion on the Park Community Centre, Eastleigh.
It takes place every Thursday through out the summer holidays: 10am-12pm and 2pm-4pm.
We have loads of fun activities, toys and arts and crafts along with a professionally run sports session running outside on the fields.
Volunteers have been excellent in providing support and if you'd like to join the fun please contact Rosy Butler or Tara McFadyen.
Helping at Weston Courts' Sheltered Housing Fun Day
Take Action Eastleigh Volunteers had a very busy time helping out at Weston Courts' Sheltered Housing Family Fun Day on Saturday 25th July.
Not only did the young people assist the elderly residents by getting their lunch and cups of tea for them, they also sold raffle tickets and called out the winning numbers for the draw.
As well as helping with all these tasks and providing some intergenerational interaction with the residents, we also took a Lucky Dip on behalf of Solent Youth Action for any children to have a go on during the event.

The day was a great success with some fantastic local bands playing including Tzee and African Roots and Imperial Leisure.
There were stilt-walkers throughout the event, a barbeque for our volunteers, face painting and bouncy castles.
