Feeding the birds
Solent Youth Action volunteers from Vinvolved have been helping to fatten up native birds this winter.
Throughout November, volunteers from the vinvolved project, Opportunity Brock, Osborne School and St Vincent College have been making bird feeders to both hang on trees in their local woodlands, as well as to sell at the Winchester Area Community Action (WACA) Christmas fair in December.
With 120 bird feeders made (a third of which are currently feeding hungry birds around Hampshire), volunteers were tasked on Saturday 5th December in Winchester's busy Discovery Centre to sell over 80 feeders in a matter of hours.
Thanks to the hard work of Robert Clarke, Glenn Jeffery, and Tisha, Tom and Luke Wood, total money raised passed the £40 mark (not bad at 50p each per feeder)!
All proceeds from the bird feeders will go towards buying seeds for Solent Youth Action's Allotment, produce from which is donated to local homeless shelters, homes for the elderly and women's refuges.
Southampton Youth Action Team's Festive Campaign
Southampton Youth Action Team decided that as part of the Vinvolved Festive Favours campaign they would like to organise a Christmas lunch for a group of well deserving people.
Through partnership work, the vinvolved team identified a group of men and women who regularly attend The Street Homeless Teams football sessions and allotment project.
It was felt that Christmas is often a very lonely time for some individuals, especially those who don't have a place to stay.
A number of service users have been invited along to the Christmas Lunch that will include lovely food, music and party games.
The Youth Action team will also promote the Festive Favours Campaign encouraging people to give the gift of time by volunteering.
This will hopefully encourage more people to find out more about volunteering and get involved in activities that will have a positive impact on their lives.
One World Week Collection at Fareham College
One World Week celebrated its 30th anniversary last year.
What started in 1978, with a few individuals coming together to challenge themselves and others to think about their responsibilities and connections globally, has grown into a worldwide movement with over 11,000 people taking part.
One World Week encourages supporters to use the week as a focus to get together and to become involved in local events, and the theme this year is Hungry for One World.
Students at Fareham College decided to organise a collection of food items, toiletries and clothes for local charities.
Big bins were dotted around the college and by the end of the week, they were overflowing with donations, from tins of spaghetti and jeans to baby grows and face cream.
Harvest for the Homeless
Over the past couple of months, volunteers from the vinvolved project have been harvesting vegetables from Solent Youth Action's own allotment to donate to various homeless charities.
Thanks to the hard work of Zoe Brazier, Nathan Brewster, Kinga Grosicka, Amy Joyce, Christopher Tollet, Freya and Tom Wood, and our very own Volunteer Youth Advisor James Hardcastle, we have donated over 300 broad beans, 48 courgettes, 57 potatoes, 23 beetroot, 35 peppers and over 3 dozen tomatoes to Winchester Night Shelter, Two Saints housing association and a Hampshire based Women's refuge.

Allotment update
Volunteers have had a very successful year on the allotment.
We are getting a good crop of mange tout, runner beans, courgettes, carrots, tomatoes, peppers, lettuce and lots more!
Volunteers from both Take Action and vinvolved have shown great dedication to this project and continue to help regularly.
Donations have been made to homeless shelters and local sheltered accommodation.
Parcels for the homeless
Solent Youth Action Volunteers from Chamberlayne College for the Arts shopped on a budget for Christmas presents that they then donated to Winchester Night Shelter.
The gifts chosen by the volunteers included hats, socks, toothbrush and toothpaste, soap, flannels and mince pies!
